Are We Getting League of Legends 2?

League of Legends has remained one of the most popular games in the world for over a decade. Riot Games keeps the game fresh through constant updates, balance changes, new champions, and seasonal modifications that challenge players continuously.

The concept of League of Legends 2 has circulated within the community for years. Players have speculated about whether Riot Games would ever develop a full sequel to replace the original game.

In this article, we’ll talk about the possibility of League of Legends 2 happening and the upcoming major updates planned for the game in the next year.

Is the League of Legends 2 Happening?

Throughout last year, rumors spread that Riot Games was working on a sequel to League of Legends. The community discussed these possibilities across forums and social media, wondering if a new version of the game was actually in development.

Riot developers Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon and Paul “Pabro” Bellezza put these rumors to rest during one of their dev updates. They clarified that League of Legends 2 won’t happen anytime soon. Riot plans to continue updating the current game with major changes and technical upgrades instead of creating a completely new version.

LoLDB, a major platform that tracks live League of Legends data directly from the game client, addressed concerns about potential technical changes during a recent interview. The website’s owners confirmed that even if Riot Games decides to replace the current client with a new system, their services would continue operating without disruption. This reassures players who rely on third-party tools and databases for game statistics, champion information, and match data.

The New Updates to Summoner’s Rift

Riot Games has big plans for Summoner’s Rift with a complete visual overhaul coming after 2026. The current season features a Demacia-themed map, and the Winter Map was updated in late 2025 with new transformations and visual improvements.

Atakhan has been removed from the game along with Blood Roses and Feats of Strength. Riot decided these features added too much complexity without providing enough value to keep them around.

The biggest gameplay change comes with Role Quests for all five positions. Players complete these quests by farming minions, taking down champions, destroying turrets and plates, and securing objectives in their assigned lanes. Minion waves spawn more frequently after 14 minutes, turrets take more damage from melee champions, and a new Crystalline Overgrowth mechanic helps players who focus on split-pushing strategies.

    A New League Client

The League of Legends community has been requesting a new client for years. The current client has caused performance issues and bugs that frustrated players since it runs as a separate application from the game. Riot finally announced plans for a complete client overhaul coming in 2027.

The new client will be fully integrated with the in-game experience rather than being a separate application. This means the game and client will run as a single application instead of two separate programs. The integration should eliminate many of the technical problems players have dealt with for years.

Riot also announced changes to runes and the pre-game experience, along with a complete overhaul to the learning experience for new players. These updates aim to make 2027 the best time ever to get friends into League of Legends. Riot plans to reveal more details about these changes between MSI and Worlds in 2026.

    Final Words

Riot Games confirmed that League of Legends 2 won’t happen. Instead, they’re focusing on updating the current game with major changes. The 2026 season brings new role quests, visual updates to Summoner’s Rift, and Atakhan’s removal. In 2027, players can expect a completely new integrated client, a full visual overhaul of the map, and improvements to the new player experience. Riot will share more details about these updates throughout 2026.
